Dolittle is an American adventure, comedy and fantasy film directed by Stephen Gaghan and written by Gaghan and Thomas Shepherd. It is based on the character Doctor Dolittle created by Hugh Lofting, and is based mainly on The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, second book with stories of the character. Robert Downey Jr. plays the main character. The film's cast includes Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen and Jim Broadbent in live action roles; along with a cast of voices that includes John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Carmen Ejogo, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, Tom Holland, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, Craig Robinson, Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson, Frances de la Tour and Fernando Cortez
The film premiered on January 17, 2020 and is distributed by Universal Pictures, which makes it the first movie based on Doctor Dolittle that is not distributed by 20th Century Fox.
