Star Trek is an American media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry. The first television series, simply called Star Trek now called “Star Trek: The Original Series”, debuted in 1966 and aired for three seasons on NBC. Eventually there were five other television series: Star Trek: The new generation follows the crew of a new Enterprise spacecraft a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager are established simultaneously with The New Generation, and Enterprise is established before the original series in the early days of human interstellar travel. The most recent series entitled Star Trek: Discovery, was broadcast exclusively on the CBS All Access digital platform. The adventures of the new generation team continued in four additional films. In 2009, the film's franchise underwent a “restart” set in an alternative timeline, or “Kelvin Timeline,” simply titled Star Trek. This film presented a new cast that portrays the younger versions of the original show crew; His adventures continued in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Its sequel, Star Trek Beyond (2016), which was launched to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
